Artists, activists to launch nationwide drive to collect 90,000 blood units on March 23 | Mangaluru News – Times of India

MANGALURU: The National Integrated Forum of Artists and Activists (NIFAA), a leading socio-cultural organisation, will hold a nationwide blood donation drive on the occasion of 90th death annivarsary of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at 1,500 venues and in some foreign countries in an attempt to create a world record by collecting 90,000 units of blood in a single day.
Pritpal Singh Pannu, chairman of NIFAA, told reporters in Mangaluru on Tuesday that India stares at blood shortage of a whopping 1.95 million units per year.
“Several myths and misinformation keep people from not coming forward to donate blood. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the situation worsened and the number of donors were very less due to social distancing and fear of infection. Hence, the NIFAA has planned to run a nation-wide blood donation drive at 1,500 venues to collect 90,000 units of blood on March 23. It is also an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records. NIFAA will hold the drive jointly in association with other dedicated organisations in the country,” he said.
Each donor as well as the organisers of the blood donation camps will be given certificates of appreciation with digital signatures of celebrities and noted personalities from various sectors.
NIFAA will provide a financial support of Rs 3,000 to the organisers in addition to Rs 50 per donor to arrange refreshments from the Red Cross Society.
