21-yr-old partially paralysed as stalker stabs her in the back

He stalked her. She rejected him. On Monday, when she was on the way to her tuition class with a chaperone, he stabbed her in the chest, stomach and back, slit her throat and fled. The victim, Neha (name changed), a 21-year-old final year degree student, is now in hospital, paralysed and fighting for her life.

Neha, a resident of Nandini Layout, sustained injuries on her spinal cord when Deepak, the accused stabbed her. She is now in a critical condition at the KC General Hospital.

Deepak, 25, the accused and a resident of Laggere, has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. According to the police, Deepak was employed in a private company and had been stalking and harassing Neha for some time now.

Neha’s mother, a vegetable seller, told Bangalore Mirror, “Deepak claimed that he loved her and would follow her everywhere. I’m a single mother and I tried to dissuade him but to no avail. He threatened to throw acid on Neha’s face because then, she would have no option but to go to him. Finally we were forced to shift to Nandini Layout. However, he managed to get her mobile number and started harassing her on the phone. I was so frightened for her that I would never send her out alone.”

On Monday afternoon when Neha was attacked, she was on a bike with Raj, a family friend, who was dropping her to tuition class, at her mother’s request. “Deepak stopped them near Life Line hospital and brandished a knife. It was a busy road and there were many people around but he was fearless and threatened to stab Raj when my daughter pushed him away.

Deepak attacked her and slit her throat and stabbed her on her chest and stomach. Raj and the public tried to stop him but he threatened to stab everyone. He stabbed her in her back, on the spinal cord, when she tried to move away from him and then he fled.” Neha’s mother said that people rushed her to the nearby Life Line hospital from where she was later shifted to KC General hospital.

She added, “We don’t know how long my daughter will take to recover. I’m a single mother and I don’t know how I will pay her medical bills. We are scared he will walk out of jail in six months and continue to harass my daughter and our family.” Nandini Layout police have registered a case and booked Deepak under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidition) and 354 (Outrage of woman’s modesty).
