This Diwali, the KSPCB has formed a task force to crack down on ‘non-green’ firecrackers.
In order to ensure a safe Deepawali this year, Karnataka pollution control board authorities have formed a special task force to crack down on vendors of “non-green” firecrackers. This comes from a previous tragedy in Attibele, in which up to 17 people were killed after a cracker go-down caught fire.

According to a report, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) was prompted to act by a letter from a group of residents called Compassionate City, in which they cited a Supreme Court ruling from October 2018 that bans non-green firecrackers across the country, specifies timings (from 8-10 pm) to burst said crackers, and prohibits the sale or bursting of crackers near schools and hospitals.
