MUMBAI: Benchmark market indices Sensex and Nifty fell in early trade on Tuesday, owing to substantial profit-taking following a big gain in the previous trade, as preliminary results for the Lok Sabha elections showed a mixed pattern.
The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 1,715.78 points to 74,753 in early trading. The NSE Nifty fell 539.1 points, reaching 22,724.80. Later, the BSE benchmark dropped 2,623.91 points to 73,844.36, while the Nifty fell 617.45 points to 22,646.45.
