Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet: India pricing, video recording, max limits and all details – Times of India


Popular video conferencing platforms like Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams have changed significantly since the world got locked inside their houses last year. What started as free features are no longer available and there are new options as well for users in India like JioMeet, Airtel BlueJeans and others.
While Zoom got a head start when our office lives got scattered due to the pandemic, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams soon played catch up. Now, all three of them are offering similar features at competitive prices making it all the more difficult for businesses to decide. For regular users, Zoom still continues to be a preferred choice. Here’s a detailed comparison of features including pricing in India among Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet.
Free plans: Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet
To get personal work done, if you are looking for platforms beyond WhatsApp, Signal, Messenger and others, then you really have three easy-to-use options– Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet. All of the three platforms are available for free but features are limited.
Google Meet Free Usage
If you are confused among Google Hangouts, Hangouts Meet, and Google Meet then note that Google had simply rebranded Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat to Google Meet and Google Chat respectively in April 2020.
You just need a Gmail account to use Google Meet for free. It is the same enterprise-grade platform that you will be able to use for free. Google Meet allows you to host instant meetings with up to 100 participants for up to 60 minutes per meeting for free. You need to disconnect every 60 minutes and start a new meeting every time the time limit is reached.

Google Meet features and video recording support
You can present documents, slides, and spreadsheets by showing your entire screen or just a window using Google Meet. However, you can no longer record video meetings on Google Meet. This option is now reserved for enterprise customers who are required to subscribe to an eligible plan.
You can join Google Meet meeting from your phone either through the Google Meet app or join audio-only by calling the dial-in number in the meeting invite. You can also host large meetings with up to 250 participants and broadcast events with up to 100,000 viewers within your domain. As for security, Meet video conferences are encrypted in transit.
Zoom Meetings Free Usage
Zoom offers a basic free account with which you can host up to 100 participants with a time limit of 40 minutes. One-on-one Zoom meetings are unlimited up to 24 hours. You need the Zoom app to host meetings and there’s no option for teleconferencing/audio conferencing for account holders.
Zoom features and video recording support
The biggest USP of Zoom is that it allows free account holders to record meetings and save them in MP4 format on your device. Audio and chat can also be saved in M4A and txt formats respectively. Free account holders don’t have access to Zoom Cloud.
Like with Google Meet, you get screen sharing, virtual background, whiteboarding and others. There’s AES-256 Encryption for real-time content along with TLS Encryption on Zoom. Other features for free users include polling, remote keyboard and mouse control, multi-share, co-Annotation on screen share and filters. Free account holders also get Zoom for Home devices support which means you can use a smart display or any personal collaboration device for video meetings, including interactive whiteboarding.
For free users, Zoom offers a wide range of features and functionalities which other competitors are trying to catch up.
Microsoft Teams Free Usage
You just need a Microsoft account along with the Microsoft Teams app to start video meetings. Microsoft Teams allows up to 300 participants to be the same video call for up to 60 minutes. Note th at this participant limit is valid till June 30, 2021 and will change for free account holder after June 30, 2021. For security, Microsoft Teams data is encrypted at rest and in transit

Microsoft Teams doesn’t offer video recordings to free account holders. You can share your screen, change background and schedule meetings. You can chat as well on Teams. There’s no limit on chatting and you are restricted to file attachments of up to 2GB per user with file storage of 10GB across all teams. There’s support for real-time collaboration in Office apps like Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Paid plans for businesses: Microsoft Teams vs Zoom vs Google Meet
Google Workspace subscriptions start at Rs 210 per user per month
Businesses need to get Google Workspace to get access to the entire range of Google products which includes Gmail, Drive, Meet, Calendar, Chat, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Keep, Sites, Forms and Currents.
There are four Google Workspace plans that businesses or organisations can opt for in India: Rs 210 per user per month for Business Starter, Rs 840 per user per month for Business Standard, Rs 1,260 per user per month for Business Plus and an enterprise plan for large companies where the features and pricing is customised.
Note that Business Starter, Business Standard, and Business Plus plans can be purchased for a maximum of 300 users. There is no minimum or maximum user limit for Enterprise plans. Google is running an offer for new Google Workspace customers in which the price of Business Starter and Business Standard is reduced to Rs 125 and Rs 672 per user per month respectively for the first 20 users added for 12 months.

Zoom Meetings paid plans start at Rs 13,200 per year per license
Zoom has three plans: Pro, Business and Enterprise at Rs Rs 13,200, Rs 18,000 and Rs 21,600 per year per license respectively. Most user-focused features are similar among the three plans but there are different limits on participants and storage. Having said that Enterprise users can opt for single sign-on, own branding along with bundle discounts and exclusive customer support.
For all paid plans, Zoom offers video meeting recording in which users can either opt for local storage or Zoom Cloud storage. Local storage means you can download the recording of your video meeting on your PC in MP4 format. However, Zoom Cloud requires a separate subscription starting at Rs 30,000 per year.
What is Zoom Meetings license and participants?
As per Zoom’s official website, a licensed user has either a free or paid meeting license and can schedule meetings with participants based on the capacity their plan allows. A participant is an invitee in a meeting scheduled by someone with a meeting license. A participant does not require a Zoom account nor license in order to join a meeting and can join for free. Participants can join a meeting from their phone, desktop, mobile and tablet devices. You can host an unlimited number of meetings but if you would like to have more than one meeting concurrently, you will need additional meeting licenses. All plans allow up to 100 participants by default in each meeting. You can add up to 1,000 participants with a Large Meeting add-on that needs to be purchased separately.

Microsoft Teams comes with Microsoft 365 subscription starting at Rs 125 per user per month (annual subscription only)
There are three plans of Microsoft 365: Business Basic, Business Standard and Office 365 E3 at Rs 125, Rs 660 and Rs 1,320 per user per month which needs to be subscribed annually. Microsoft 365 subscription include access to full range of Microsoft services which include mailbox and custom email domain address, access to web versions of Office apps like Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote (plus Access and Publisher for PC only). Store and share files with OneDrive cloud storage, host online meetings and video conferencing along with customer support.
