Microsoft Teams gets Live transcription feature: How it works – Times of India

Microsoft has announced live transcription in Microsoft Teams meetings for English (US). Similar to recording a meeting, participants are notified that live transcription is on and have the ability to hide it from their meeting view with just a click. If they choose not be identified, attendees can also turn off speaker attribution in their profile settings.
“Delivering live transcription with high accuracy, minimal latency, and cost efficiency at enterprise scale has been one of the toughest challenges in the industry. Over the last two years we’ve made significant strides in solving this problem and have dramatically improved our models for accuracy using meeting context in real time and cutting edge AI,” claims the company in a statement. Here’s how the feature works and more:
What exactly is Live transcription feature
Live transcription is a written record of the spoken text that occurs during a meeting. It identifies each speaker and is captured automatically in near real time. The transcription can be accesed both during and after the meeting.
How to start live transcription in Teams meetings
* Select More options in your meeting controls and then select Start transcription.
* All participants will see a notice that the meeting is being transcribed.
* The transcript appears on the right side of your screen. The other meeting participants have the option of showing or hiding it. The meeting organizer and presenters can stop and then restart transcription during the meeting.
How to hide your name in live captions
When meetings include live captions or transcription, Teams automatically identifies the speaker along with what they say. You can choose to hide your name in live captions, live transcription, and the saved transcription that’s available after the meeting. Here’s how
* Do this before the meeting where you want to speak anonymously.
* Select More options: Microsoft teams More options icon, next to your profile picture at the top of Teams and then select Settings.
* Select Captions and transcripts on the left and then select the Automatically identify me in meeting captions and transcripts toggle to turn off the option.

During any scheduled Teams meeting, participants can start a live transcription of speech. The text appears alongside the meeting video or audio in real time, including the speaker’s name (unless they chose to hide it) and a time stamp. After the meeting, the saved transcript is available for reference and download in Teams for desktop and web. The transcript is also immediately available in the meeting event in Teams calendar, as well as through the transcript tile in the chat. Teams live transcription files are stored in the meeting organizer’s Exchange Online account and only the organizer and tenant admin have permissions to delete it.
Who can start using live transcriptions?
Live transcription with speaker attribution is available for scheduled Microsoft Teams meetings to users with licenses for Microsoft 365 E3, Microsoft 365 E5, Microsoft 365 Business Standard, and Microsoft 365 Business Premium SKUs. Microsoft says that Live transcripts for channel and Meet Now meetings will be coming soon.
