Gandhi Bazaar Project on Main Road by the BBMP Ruffles Feathers

In response to the ongoing road improvement project on Gandhi Bazaar Main Road being carried out by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT), residents and business owners in Gandhi Bazaar have decided to file a new petition with the Karnataka High Court.

BBMP was instructed not to erect permanent structures under the pretense of offering temporary shelter to street sellers, as this could interfere with the operations of the traders along the stretch, following a High Court order dated August 8, 2023, a copy of which is with BM.

Locals claim that BBMP has nonetheless built a concrete structure on the pavement area.

“The civic authority is continuing to build concrete platforms against the court’s directive. The BBMP contractor told us that they had not received any orders from the Palike to halt the construction when we tried to complain about it.
