Neeraj Chopra wins the prize! Indian takes first place at the World Athletics Championships.
Neeraj Chopra’s golden arm adheres to the plot exactly to the letter. It is rather expected. Similar to his Olympic performance in Tokyo, Neeraj succeeded in his second attempt, throwing the javelin 88.17 meters at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary, to win India’s first-ever gold medal at a World Athletics Championship.
On the big stage, two other Indians, Kishore Jena and DP Manu, also made an impression. Jena, who placed fifth with a throw of 84.77 meters (his personal best), and Manu, who placed sixth with a throw of 84.14 meters, both failed to make the podium.
Neeraj completed the last item on his list of gold medals—the Worlds gold—in style. The second throw was actually thrown a few meters behind the foul line, and there was room for a few more.
