Kolkata’s Durga Puja pandal is rocking With its Menstrual Hygiene focus theme
The Menstrual Hygiene topic for the 84th anniversary of Kolkata’s “Pathurighata Pancher Palli” Durga Puja pandal challenges societal conventions and taboos around menstruation. Ellora Saha, the Working President of the “Pathuriaghata Pancher Palli Sarbojanin Durgotsab” committee, is the mastermind behind this provocative effort.
The topic for this year’s puja pandal is “Ritumati” (Menstrual Hygiene), which aims to eliminate the stigma attached to menstruation. Menstruation is a normal biological occurrence, so there is no need to hide it, Ellora Saha noted. She was cited by the news agency ANI as stating, “It’s about time we break these taboos, and the first step is to bring such concerns to the forefront.
Menstruation is usually linked to a variety of limitations, including a ban on women leaving the house, sharing beds with their husbands, or going into the kitchen. These beliefs are made worse by a lack of information regarding personal cleanliness and health throughout the menstrual cycle. Ellora Saha urges both boys and girls to learn about menstruation scientifically and to see it as a straightforward, normal biological occurrence that isn’t shrouded in mystery or glorification.
