On a Sunday night IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Bengaluru, a passenger was observed smoking a beedi in the restroom. When the plane landed at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) at midnight, he was immediately taken into custody and detained under the Aircraft Act.

According to a police source, he was detained at the KIA police station under the Aircraft Rules 1937 for violating the prohibition against smoking inside aircraft under Section 25 (3b) and threatening the public’s safety under Section 336 IPC.

On September 3 at 9.11 p.m., flight 6E 487 departed from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport with G Karunakaran sitting in seat 24A.
