Driverless Train for Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line Set for Safety Inspection
The much-anticipated Yellow Line of Namma Metro is set to reach a significant milestone as its first driverless train undergoes an official safety inspection. This comes after multiple delays caused by pending metro coach deliveries, finally paving the way for operational readiness.
Inspection by CMRS Scheduled
The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will conduct a detailed inspection of the driverless train on February 24. This train, which arrived from China, marks a major step forward in Bengaluru’s metro expansion efforts.
A senior official from the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) confirmed that the train has successfully cleared multiple internal tests. “The CMRS has reviewed all required documents and will inspect the train on February 24. However, this is solely a train inspection, and a full Yellow Line assessment is scheduled for the end of March,” the official stated.
Train Deliveries and Progress
The first batch of six train coaches arrived from China on February 14, 2024, and was delivered to the Hebbagodi metro depot. Since then, rigorous internal evaluations have been carried out to ensure the train meets all safety and performance standards before the official inspection.
What’s Next for the Yellow Line?
Following the CMRS inspection, the next critical step will be a comprehensive evaluation of the entire Yellow Line corridor. Scheduled for the end of March, this assessment will determine the line’s overall readiness for passenger operations. If everything proceeds smoothly, Bengaluru residents can expect the much-delayed Yellow Line to become operational soon, easing congestion and enhancing connectivity in the city.
