Bishan Singh Bedi, the former captain of Team India, died at the age of 77. In 2021, he underwent bypass surgery. Between December 31, 1966, and September 4, 1979, the famous spinner grabbed 266 wickets in 67 Tests and seven wickets in ten One-Day Internationals for India. In 22 Test matches, he led India to six triumphs.

Bedi was selected India’s captain in 1976, succeeding Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. His first Test victory as skipper came in the third Test of the 1976 series against the West Indies in Port-of-Spain. Following that, he captained the team that defeated New Zealand 2-0 at home. Sunil Gavaskar took over as captain after three consecutive Test series failures against England, Australia, and Pakistan.

Bedi lags Lance Gibbs by 16.35 to 16.62 maiden overs per Test. Despite just playing two One-Day Internationals, he holds the global record for the most economical bowling stats in a 60-over ODI match. Bedi received the Padma Shri in 1970 and the C. K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for his continuous commitment to sports.
