Bengaluru police charge actor Upendra with violating the Atrocities Act after his remarks
Upendra, a politician-turned-actor, is currently involved in a court dispute after being formally charged under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
On Sunday, August 13, the case was opened at Bengaluru’s CK Achukattu police station in response to a backlash against his disparaging remarks on the Dalit community.
The event happened on Saturday, August 12, during an Instagram live session when Upendra was commemorating the sixth anniversary of his political party, Prajakeeya. He said things during the live session that outraged people and drew harsh criticism from them.

Upendra made remarks that were insulting and humiliating to the Holeya group (Scheduled Caste) during his speech on the possibility of social reform. “Innocent people don’t speak carelessly,” he said.
There are others who comment without cause. Every village has a ‘holgeri’. The area of the town or village where the Holeya community resides is referred to as “holgeri.”
