Bengaluru rang in the New Year in grand style, with enormous crowds gathering on the city’s MG Road and Brigade Road at midnight on January 1. Massive police forces were deployed around the city, and CCTV cameras were set in all key sites to watch the festivities.
More than a lakh people reportedly congregated in the MG Road area at midnight, forcing police to limit car traffic throughout Bengaluru’s Central Business District. Indiranagar, Koramangala, Kalyan Nagar, and Marathahalli too saw large crowds until the early morning hours.
According to Bengaluru police, around 9,000 officers were on duty last night, and numerous key areas were grilled with drunk and drive checks. The police used massive watch towers to monitor the situation, and 18 such towers were built throughout the city.
The city’s newest addition to safety, Safety Islands, which may be used during emergencies, also aided many individuals in need. There were no serious incidents recorded, and the festivities were mainly quiet across Bengaluru.
Special festivities were also held in the city’s apartments and housing societies to entertain inhabitants on New Year’s Eve. Gig workers had a busy night with numerous scheduled deliveries for the city’s parties.
