Tragic Accident in Bengaluru: Two Die as Bus Pushes Auto Beneath Another Bus
Bengaluru witnessed a heartbreaking accident on Friday at Seetha Circle, Banashankari III Stage, where two lives were lost due to a fatal collision involving two BMTC buses and an autorickshaw. The incident occurred around 11:30 AM at Hosakerehalli Cross, bringing traffic to a standstill and leaving the community in shock.
The Accident: A Chain Reaction of Tragedy
The victims of this devastating accident were Vishnu Rao Bapat (80), an Ayurvedic practitioner residing in Banashankari III Stage, and Anil Kumar K (40), an auto driver from KP Agrahara. Bapat was traveling in Kumar’s auto when tragedy struck.
As per reports, a BMTC bus ahead of the auto slowed down to allow a car to take a left turn. Kumar, driving the auto, also slowed down behind it. However, another BMTC bus following the auto failed to stop in time and rear-ended the three-wheeler. The impact was so severe that the auto was shoved under the bus in front, crushing both passengers instantly.
Traffic Disruption and Legal Action
Following the accident, traffic was disrupted for 30 minutes on Hosakerehalli Main Road. The police arrived at the scene promptly, arresting the bus driver, Prasanna, who was responsible for the crash. The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) for postmortem examination.
A formal complaint was filed by Bapat’s granddaughter, Smriti Rajesh, under BNS Section 106 (causing death by negligence) against Prasanna. The investigation is underway to determine if reckless driving or mechanical failure played a role in the tragedy.
Road Safety Concerns in Bengaluru
This accident once again raises serious concerns about road safety and public transport regulations in Bengaluru. With an increasing number of road accidents involving buses, there is an urgent need for:
- Stricter traffic enforcement to ensure that bus drivers follow safe driving practices.
- Speed regulation and monitoring systems to prevent rash driving.
- Regular vehicle maintenance to avoid accidents caused by brake failures or other technical issues.
- Better driver training programs to enhance awareness and reaction time in traffic-heavy areas.
A Call for Change: Tragic Accident in Bengaluru
The untimely demise of Vishnu Rao Bapat and Anil Kumar K is a stark reminder of how fragile life can be on the roads. It is imperative for authorities, bus operators, and citizens to work together in creating a safer traffic environment.
As investigations continue, Bengaluru residents hope for justice for the victims and stricter enforcement of road safety norms to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Let’s strive for safer roads and responsible driving to avoid losing more innocent lives to preventable accidents.
