Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assessed the situation in the landslide-hit area of Shirur village

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assessed the situation in Shirur village, Uttara Kannada district, where a landslide killed 10 people and three are still missing. The search and rescue operations in the village’s Ankola district continue. The Chief Minister met with the SDRF and NDRF teams that are conducting the operations.

The Chief Minister praised the personnel’s efforts, emphasizing that the mission of finding the lives trapped beneath the earth is extremely difficult in the continued torrential rain, with one side of the road blocked by a landslide and a roaring Gangavali river on the right side.

Restoration work is ongoing following a major landslide that killed ten people on National Highway 66 near Shirur village in Ankola Taluk on July 18. Four teams are utilizing radar technology to identify the three people believed to be trapped under the landslide. Four additional teams are operating on the opposite side of the river.

Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, who has been stationed in the taluk for several days, informed the Chief Minister about the issue. The Chief Minister informed the officials that the route in the area where the operation is taking place is clogged with mud, which could cause the land to collapse.

He also proposed seeking technical support from high-level experts regarding potential hazards and challenges throughout the operation. Revenue Minister Krishnabyre Gowda, District In-charge Minister Mankala Vaidya, Former Minister RV Deshpande, MLA Satish Sail, Additional Chief Secretaries to the Government LK Ateeq and Shalini Rajneesh, as well as senior revenue department officials and workers, were all present.
