Bengaluru Weather shattered yet another weather record on Friday, being the coldest day of 2024 thus far. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city’s maximum temperature for the day was 23.8 degrees Celsius, which was much lower than the usual July temperature. This unusual temperature drop is being attributed to a variety of weather events. The current cold spell in the city is mostly caused by the formation of an offshore trough across coastal Karnataka.
This trough has helped carry cold, moist air from the Arabian Sea into the state’s interior. “In less than 24 hours, Bengaluru Weather daytime temperature dropped by 3.2 degrees Celsius. While the city registered 27 degrees on Thursday, it clocked 23.8 degrees on Friday, making it the coldest day of 2024 thus far,” CS Patil, a scientist at IMD in Bengaluru, said, according to the publication. “It’s been three days since the sun shone in Bengaluru. Furthermore, the intensification of westerly winds has played an important part in this climatic transition. These winds have been delivering massive amounts of moisture from the sea, which has interacted with the current weather patterns over Bengaluru and its surroundings, resulting in a significant drop in temperatures. Karnataka state has also been receiving severe rains, with monsoon rainfall 22 percent above normal since June, according to a minister who talked with news agency PTI.
