Exit polls predict a crushing defeat for PM Rishi Sunak’s Tories as voting in the UK election comes to an end.

LONDON: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak may face a crushing defeat, with his Labour Party competitor Keir Starmer poised for a landslide victory, according to the definitive election night exit poll issued on Thursday as polling stations throughout the country closed in the historic UK general election.

According to the exit poll, which is generally pretty near to the actual total, Labour might win up to 410 seats, comfortably crossing the 326-seat line and securing a 170-seat majority, with the incumbent Conservatives down to just 131 seats.

Starmer, who is scheduled to take over at 10 Downing Street on Friday, resorted to social media with a message for voters: “To everyone who has campaigned for Labour in this election, to everyone who voted for us and put their trust in our changed Labour Party- thank you.”
