MUMBAI: The rupee fell 26 paise to 83.40 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday, as preliminary results for the Lok Sabha elections showed a mixed trend.
A sluggish trend in local equity markets dampened optimism in early trades, according to currency traders.
According to television reports, the BJP-dominated NDA led in more than 200 of the 350 parliamentary seats where trends were known, while the opposition INDIA alliance led in 120.
