Bengaluru police will have eight additional DCPs to handle cybercrimes and narcotics.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Tuesday, January 16, that eight extra Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP) jobs will be created in Bengaluru to improve the city police’s capabilities to handle cybercrime and narcotics effectively.

Addressing the media following the annual meeting of senior police officers, Mr. Siddaramaiah also announced the creation of eight more senior positions at the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police to lead cybercrime and drugs stations in order to properly investigate cases. The ACPs will take over the inspector-level role currently held by the station house officer.

Recently, in an effort to contain the growing cybercrime menace, primarily related to the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS), courier frauds, sextortion, and online job rackets, City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda delegated four Deputy Commissioners of Police to head Special Investigation Teams (SIT) tasked with supervising specific cases assigned to them and ensuring that cases are resolved quickly.
