In Bengaluru, fake cops threaten a lawyer with a drug charge and demand Rs 1.9L.

Cybercriminals have added a new twist to the FedEx courier fraud. Previously, the culprits would remain anonymous and ring up victims to defraud them while impersonating Mumbai cybercrime detectives and CBI agents. In police clothes, they are now visiting possible victims.

Neethu (name changed), a 25-year-old law practitioner from Victoria Layout, fell victim to fraud after two anonymous men in police uniform came to her house and requested her to accompany them because she was wanted in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case registered in Mumbai.
The advocate declined to accompany them because there was no policewoman. Neethu received a call from anonymous guys shortly after they left, alleging that her FedEx box to Taiwan contained illegal goods, including MDMA pills.
