75 major junctions in Bengaluru to be redesigned. Details

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike(BBMP) and city traffic police have launched a mission called ‘Suraksha 75’ to make junctions of tech capital safer for pedestrians and commuters. 75 junctions in Bengaluru will be revamped and redesigned under this mission in a way that they enhance the safety and help in a smooth traffic flow.

In an announcement, Bengaluru police commissioner for traffic, MA Saleem said, “The city has been growing exponentially as there are almost 2000 to 2500 new vehicles coming on city roads every day. For the smooth management of traffic and safety of the residents, the Suraksha 75 mission has been launched in collaboration with the civic body. This can be a game changer for traffic eco system in Bengaluru”

BBMP Commissioner Tushar Girinath also urged people to cooperate as there might be some inconvenience during redesigning these junctions. “We have identified the 75 junctions in the city which are facing continuous traffic woes and Rs. 150 crores has been allotted for this in the state budget. All the junctions will be re designed by BBMP’s engineering cell in a way that they provide safety for pedestrians and commuters. We need support and cooperation from people of Bengaluru as there might be temporary inconvenience due to repair works,” he said.
During the presentation of state budget this year, Karnataka government allocated Rs. 350 crores for the construction of a five-kilometers elevated road in Bengaluru to further tackle congestion. Rs. 300 crore was further allocated for construction of roads in Bengaluru, while Rs. 1000 crore was granted for white topping of 120 kilometres.
