Nationwide Protests Target Trump’s Policies and Musk’s Business Moves

April 6, 2025 — United States

Cities across the United States witnessed a surge of public dissent on Saturday, as tens of thousands of demonstrators marched in protest against President Donald Trump and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. The protests, which spanned major urban centers from New York to Los Angeles, reflected growing discontent over recent political and corporate decisions that critics say are threatening economic stability and jobs.

While some protestors carried signs decrying what they called "reckless economic leadership" from the Trump administration, others focused their outrage on job cuts associated with Musk-led ventures, including DOGE Inc., a company affiliated with his controversial push into decentralized finance.

“What’s happening in America is everyone’s problem,” said Jerome Whitaker, a protestor in Chicago. “President Trump is steering us toward a global recession. We’re seeing inflation, job insecurity, and policies that favor the elite.”

Another demonstrator, Angela Ruiz from Austin, Texas, pointed to mass layoffs at DOGE as a catalyst for her participation. “Elon Musk built this company on promises of innovation and job creation. Now people are being let go with no safety net,” she said.

Though the protests were largely peaceful, there were reports of tense stand-offs between demonstrators and law enforcement in select areas, particularly near federal buildings.

Analysts suggest that the convergence of political and corporate criticism in a single protest wave is a reflection of increasing frustration with the interconnected power wielded by political leaders and tech billionaires.

As protests continue, the White House and DOGE Inc. have yet to release official responses.
