Bengaluru Techie Attempts Self-Immolation Near Raj Bhavan, Cites Harassment in Domestic Violence Case

Bengaluru, April 14:
A dramatic and distressing incident unfolded outside Raj Bhavan on Sunday afternoon when a Bengaluru-based techie attempted to set himself on fire, alleging harassment in a domestic violence case filed against him.

The man, identified as Zuhail Ahmed, an engineer and resident of Hebbal, arrived at the high-security zone near the Governor's residence carrying a can of petrol. Witnesses say he poured the inflammable liquid over himself and publicly declared his intention to end his life, claiming he had been denied justice.

“I wanted to file a complaint too, but the police are not listening to me. I have no choice but to end my life,” Ahmed reportedly told police officers at the scene.

However, quick-thinking security personnel stationed near Raj Bhavan acted swiftly, restraining Ahmed before he could ignite himself. He was immediately taken into custody for questioning.

According to police sources, a medical examination is being conducted, and Ahmed’s family members have been informed. Authorities are currently investigating the matter further, including the claims made by Ahmed regarding police inaction and the domestic violence case.

The incident has sparked renewed attention toward the complexities and emotional toll of domestic disputes, as well as the importance of timely and balanced action by law enforcement in sensitive cases.

Further updates are awaited as the investigation continues.
