Tragic Accident in Bengaluru: BMTC Electric Bus Runs Over Two-Wheeler, Two Killed
Bengaluru, March 28, 2025 – A horrific accident on Old Airport Road in Bengaluru claimed the lives of two people after an electric BMTC bus ran over a two-wheeler on Wednesday night.
The accident occurred around 10 PM near the ISRO UR Rao Satellite Centre, according to reports from Deccan Herald. The victims have been identified as a Rapido driver, Tapas (33), a native of West Bengal, and his pillion rider, whose identity is yet to be determined. One of them died on the spot, while the other succumbed to injuries shortly after.
Driver and Conductor Flee the Scene
Following the accident, the driver and conductor of the BMTC electric bus fled, leaving behind a chaotic scene. By Thursday morning, authorities managed to track down the driver, but the conductor remains absconding.
According to the Jeevan Bima Nagar traffic police, the impact of the crash was severe, with the rider’s phone and other belongings crushed under the weight of the bus. Police identified Tapas using his Aadhaar card.
Public Reaction and Concerns Over BMTC’s Electric Buses
The accident has ignited discussions on social media, with many users questioning the safety of BMTC’s electric buses. Concerns have been raised about the powerful nature of these vehicles and whether their drivers are adequately trained to handle them in Bengaluru’s congested traffic conditions.
Passersby helped retrieve the victims’ bodies from under the bus, causing temporary traffic disruption on the busy Old Airport Road.
